An Alton man who stole thousands of dollars of electronic surveillance equipment while working with detectives on an undercover drug buy in June has been sentenced on three felonies. 27-year old, William S. Cole of the 1100 block of East Fifth Street in Alton pleaded guilty yesterday to theft over $10,000, criminal damage to property, and possession of a look alike substance with intent to deliver, which is why he was in trouble in the first place. He has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Cole had apparently cut a deal with police to be a confidential informant after being busted earlier in June for carrying a substance that looked like heroin. He was on the run for 24 hours before authorities located him inside of a home in the 300 block of Buff Street. Officers were forced to use a taser on Cole, who was allegedly attempting to flee from officers after being confronted.
