An Alton man has been sentenced to 19 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release for his role in a counterfeit conspiracy. 21-year-old Tony Young Jr. entered a guilty plea in November on the charge of Conspiracy to Manufacture, Possess and Pass Counterfeit United States Currency.
Young admitted during the plea that he and others had agreed to manufacture and use counterfeit money and then use that money to buy vehicles. They would then turn around and resell the vehicles for legitimate U.S. currency. Young and others involved in the conspiracy were arrested and charged a short time after a Craigslist transaction in Sandoval, Illinois in August of 2013.
