An Alton man has been found guilty of murdering his cousin in 2011. 24 year old Damond Riddlespriger of the 1100 block of Putnam was found guilty after a Madison County jury deliberated for six hours Thursday. He faces up to 60 years in jail when he is sentenced.
Riddlespriger was found guilty for the murder of 22-year-old Marlon Poindexter. On the afternoon of July 11, 2011, Riddlespriger and two other men were in a car with Poindexter who was in the driver’s seat while the vehicle was parked on Myrle Street in Alton. Authorities say Riddlespriger pulled out a gun and shot Poindexter in the back of the head. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Prosecutors say the defendant had been upset with his cousin's relationship with a female acquaintance at the time of the shooting. When he is sentenced, Riddlespriger must serve 100% of his term in prison.
