A previously convicted felon is now facing an extended prison term after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. 28-year old Elijah Woods of Alton was sentenced to 8 years in prison and three years of supervised release after a loaded pistol was found in his possession in September of 2010.
According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Woods was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped by Alton Police. While an officer approached the vehicle, Woods got out and fled the scene, leaving a loaded pistol on the floorboard of the car. He was later taken into custody where he admitted that he knew that it was illegal for him to have the weapon.
