An Alton man is in custody after a shooting incident on Sunday. 47 year old Norzell Pittman of the 2000 block of Brown Street was named Tuesday as the suspect in the case in which he allegedly went into a home armed and wearing a bulletproof vest, but ended up shooting himself.
According to charges from the Madison County State’s Attorney, Pittman is charged with home invasion, armed habitual criminal and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He is accused of entering a home in the 1200 block of Highland in Alton on Sunday targeting a man who lived there, but was met at the door by another man. Pittman and the second man got into a physical altercation inside the home and Pittman was shot in the hand. Pittman was paroled from prison in November 2014 after being convicted of home invasion in 2011. He also has a drug conviction from 2004. Pittman is being held on a $200,000 bond.
