The Alton Fire Department was one of four in the area to receive a grant from the Illinois American Water Company earlier this year. The no-match grant worth $1,200 allowed the department to buy a much needed piece of equipment according to Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold.
Sebold also says that the opportunity to get grant money for new equipment is huge, when you consider how strapped the city is for cash right now. He says that this new pump will allow the department to better serve those in the community.
Godfrey, Holiday Shores and the QEM Fire Protection District in Jersey County also received no match grants through the Illinois American Water through their 2012 Firefighter Grant Program. In total, Illinois American Water awarded 148 grants across the state worth a total of $173,000.
