A special meeting of the Alton City Council has been called for Monday. According to a statement from Mayor Brant Walker, the meeting could include an executive session to update the council on various personnel matters within the city’s police department. The meeting will be held January 5 at 7pm at City Hall.
Details of the specific topics to be discussed are not known, but could include the reported suspension of police Captain Scott Waldrup earlier this month. Waldrup has reportedly been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a missing evidence investigation. A hearing before the Alton Civil Service Commission is also expected next month. Earlier this month, the Big Z reported Alton Police Officer Jonathan Forrler was indicted by a Madison County Grand Jury with official misconduct related to the improper disposal of evidence. Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons told the Big Z there did not appear to be criminal intent with the evidence disposal involving Forrler, but the missing items impacted 130 criminal cases.
