The 2013-2014 budget for the city of Alton may be passed tomorrow night, as aldermen gave it preliminary approval at Monday night's Committee of the Whole meeting. The budget has $33.5-million in the General Fund, which covers day-to-day expenses. That's slightly higher than in years past, but Alton Mayor Brant Walker feels all departments will be adequately funded.
On the topic of putting his first budget together about a month after taking office:
In other committee action, the city will soon have a few more parking spaces downtown, as Argosy Gaming is canceling its lease of the parking lot at the corner of Broadway and Piasa. And the development of the former Wadlow Golf Course is moving along, with design and engineering consulting services now being sought. The full council meets tomorrow night at 7:30 to deal with these and other issues.
