The Alton Main Street organization is taking on the leadership of the downtown Alton Block Parties this year, and has set the schedule and picked themes for the events. There are a few changes in store, including fewer but bigger parties and a change in the time of month when the parties will take place.
The block party will still be held on West Third Street, between State and Piasa, also closing off a block of Belle Street between Mac's, Hayner Library, and the Riverbender.com Community Center. Alton Main Street Executive Director Sara McGibany:
The parties will be held on the third Saturdays of the month in June, July and August, rather than the last Saturday, and the times will be from 4-10pm with kids activities in the first part, and the featured band playing from 7-10. McGibany also says Main Street will bring back the fall Chili Cook-Off, which should take place in October.
