The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has approved a resolution giving the city's Comptroller permission to seek quotes from area banks to provide a line of credit in advance of plans to purchase two ambulances for the city. The plan to have the Alton Fire Department offer ambulance services appears to be moving forward, after layovers at two consecutive meetings over the past month.
The city hopes to have ambulance service up and running by next spring. Each ambulance will be staffed by at least one EMT-paramedic and one EMT Basic as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health. But the original plan for three ambulances has been pared back to just two. The full city council will vote on the resolution Wednesday night at 6:30.
