The 2013-2014 budget for the city of Alton has been approved. After preliminary approval on Monday, the full council suspended the rules to give first and second reading to the ordinance last night. The total General Fund expenses over the coming fiscal year are projected at $33.5-million.
In other council action, the Downtown Business District regulations were amended to allow for a microbrewery to set up shop at 331 Belle Street. This is a building owned by the operators of Mac's Time Out Lounge, and will be leased to the Templar Brewing Company. The council is also looking forward to having a few more parking spaces downtown. Argosy Gaming is canceling its lease of the parking lot at the corner of Broadway and Piasa. And a property access agreement has been reached with the Department of Veterans' Affairs to increase accessibility to the national cemetery on Pearl Street.
