Events are underway to celebrate 175 years of Alton. It's not too often a city or town can boast being around for 175 years, but this Saturday, July 21, Alton will do just that. With a city that old, there's plenty of history to look back on, and the Alton Little Theater will help facilitate that look, according to Alton Little Theater's Lee Bailey-Cox.
There will be plenty of entertainment to celebrate 175 years this Saturday at the Riverfront, including Paddlewheel Boat Cruises, performances by the Alton Little Theater, and music by the Scott Air Force Band, Shades of Blue, the Great Rivers Choral Society and the Glendale Riders, a country-rock band. It all gets started with a mayor's welcome at 4pm and concludes at 11pm. Fireworks will light up the sky beginning at 9:15. There will also be food vendors, and events except for the cruises will be free of charge.
