If you or someone you know has been struggling with depression and have seen little or no success with treatment, a psychiatrist with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine says there are some alternative treatment options available. Dr. Jeffrey Bennett says one of the newest treatments is transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy, where patients receive a brief series of magnetic pulses to stimulate brain neurons.
He says electroconvulsive therapy has also proven to be effective.
Bennett says about 15 percent of patients have treatment-resistant depression, and don’t respond to traditional medications and therapy. For more information about these other treatment options, follow the link here: http://www.siumed.edu/
