For those who received the USDA 2012 census, Feb. 4 is the due date. The census is taken out every five years of farmers and ranchers.  “It’s used by policy makers and a lot of businesses to make decisions, by the congressmen and US Congress,” said Glenn Strasburg, acting deputy director of the Illinois field office for the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

“Their staff looks at this and they make decisions for the farm bill and other decisions. Partly based on what they see in this. They allocate money to different congressional districts based on a number of farmers.”  After the censuses are gathered, the USDA will process the information.
