The advantages Wood River would receive by purchasing a shuttered federal facility a few blocks away from City Hall would be significant, according to the City Manager. Jim Schneider says the Albert J. Ellison Reserve Center at 100 Anderson Avenue is a former home of U.S. Army Reserve units, and they have been looking at it for some time.
He says the Public Works Department is spread out between two facilities, so getting everything together would be of benefit, and there are bays at the facility that could be used to work on the equipment. No timetable has been set by the feds to release the property, and neither has a price tag. Schneider says the city is waiting on that information to come in, and will proceed once they know more.
