State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton is looking at the proposed cuts to Amtrak service in Illinois. Governor Bruce Rauner is calling on a $16-million cut in the budget for the rail service that includes a stop in Alton. Beiser says he’s concerned because of the impact the cuts could have for local passengers.
Beiser says he wanted to hear more from Amtrak before the cuts go before the House:

Last week, Amtrak Board of Directors member Thomas Carper testified that ridership from St. Louis to Chicago…including stops in Alton…increased 100-percent. Beiser says the cuts proposed by the governor will have a significant impact on the economy of the towns served by the rail service.
