An Alton man is heading to prison for 50 years for the murder of his cousin. 24-year-old Damond Riddlespriger of the 1100 block of Putnam was found guilty in January of first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Marlon Poindexter. Riddlespriger was sentenced today for25 years for the murder and 25 years for his use of a firearm.
He will have to serve 100% of his sentence. Authorities say on the afternoon of July 11, 2011, Riddlespriger and two other men were in a car with Poindexter, who was in the driver’s seat, while the vehicle was parked on Myrle Street in Alton. Authorities say Riddlespriger pulled out a gun and shot Poindexter in the back of the head. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Prosecutors say the defendant had been upset with his cousin's relationship with a female acquaintance at the time of the shooting.
