An Illinois commission meant to advance effective communication access for the deaf and hard of hearing failed to comply with the Open Meetings Act. That’s according to one of the last audits from Auditor General William Holland.
In the compliance review of the Illinois Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission published last Thursday the auditor says two of five newly appointed commission members did not complete training in a timely manner as required by the Open Meetings Act. The report also says the commission did not obtain or keep copies of certain certification documentation. Meanwhile the auditor didn’t find any noncompliance issues in an audit of the state’s Legislative Research Unit. Auditor General William Holland announced his retirement earlier this year and is being replaced by former state Representative Frank Mautino, who was sworn in last week.
