DESCRIPTION:Join The Nature Institute and the region as we eradicate h
oneysuckle. Each year\, the Missouri Botanical Garden champions an eff
ort across the metro east to get as many people removing invasive hone
ysuckle as possible in March and November. The Nature Institute is hap
py to be part of this effort\, and we invite you to come out on Novemb
er 6th to help us remove honeysuckle on our preserves. \nWho can Parti
cipate? Anyone who is able to use hand tools to remove woody shrubs or
pull small shrubs up from the roots. We ask that anyone under 13 atte
nd with an adult. \nWhat should I bring? You will want to wear sturdy 
close-toed shoes\, long pants and maybe long sleeves. If you have a pa
ir of gloves you can bring them or use the ones that TNI provides. Bri
ng a reusable water bottle. \nCan you tell me about the work? Removing
honeysuckle is a tedious but not very difficult task. Our stewardship
director\, Rebekah\, will start the morning with a quick lesson on ho
w to identify honeysuckle. Then everyone will spread out in the area c
hosen for this work and will use small hand saws\, loppers\, and hand 
loppers to cut medium to large shrubs. Then a staff member will come a
nd spray the stump with herbicide. Some honeysuckle is small and if th
e ground is soft\, we will be able to just pull those small plants out
of the ground. \nDo I have to stay the whole time? We appreciate as m
uch or as little time as you can provide. We would prefer that everyon
e arrive at the start so that we can be sure to get everyone to the co
rrect location for the work\, but if you need to leave early that is f
ine. We will have a sign in and sign out sheet available so that we ca
n track the hours volunteered. \nDo I need to register? We would love 
to know if you plan to join us. Registering helps us ensure we have pl
enty of tools for all the volunteers and it provides us with an email 
address in case we have to cancel for weather or some other reason. Yo
