Curtain's Up Theater Company proudly presents 'Inherit the Wind'! In 1925, the teaching of evolution in public schools was put on trial in a Tennessee small town. The trial, known as the Scopes Monkey Trial, would go on to impact government oversight of education. “Inherit the Wind” is a dramatization of the trial. As you watch it come alive on stage, you will experience how a community is tested at the intersection of religion, science, politics, education, and media.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the trial. With the polarization of our current political climate and our need for civil discourse, this show gives us the opportunity to see how we as a society dealt with such issues at an earlier time in our history. To be in a democratic society is to have debates and discussions when we have a difference in beliefs. It’s through these discussions that we’re able to move forward as a society.
