Join us for a dedication of the gravestone for Charles Newton, the first Black Alton High graduate, and his wife, Sara Newton Cohron, on the 150th anniversary of his 1873 graduation! Both were prominent members of their community, but sadly their graves weren't marked until a generous donation last fall by Gent Funeral Home based on the hard detective work of Vintage Voices and Hayner Library staff. Join us for a celebration of the Newtons' lives and achievements! Jared Hennings and Velva Parker will reprise their Vintage Voices roles as the Newtons as well!
