About this event

As we near in 2018 the start of the State of Illinois’ Bicentennial celebration come and enjoy a discussion the history of one of Illinois’ oldest communities, the Village of Cahokia.
Brad Winn, Site Manager of the Colonial Cahokia State Historic Sites will discuss the storied history of this Illinois settlement.
Founded in 1699, the Village of Cahokia serves arguably as Illinois’ longest continuously settled community. Established by the Jesuit order it began its history as a center for French Canadian Catholic teaching to the local American Indian population. The village quickly became a hub for trade between the French and American Indian people and Cahokia has stood witness to much of early Illinois history, from the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the first county seat of St. Clair County.

Today, the State of Illinois, Historic Sites Division of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, operates two historic sites in Cahokia, the Cahokia Courthouse and the Jarrot Mansion as well as the nearby Martin-Boismenue in Dupo.
