The 44th Annual Carrollton Lady Hawk Invitational finished play yesterday and saw Quincy Notre Dame beat Lebanon 52-45 for the tournament championship. Routt topped Marquette 52-35 for 3rd place and it was Jersey over Carrollton 66-52 for 5th place. West Central beat Metro East Lutheran 63-43 for the consolation championship.
In Men's College Basketball, the Lewis and Clark Community College Trailblazer's fell to The Southwestern Illinois College's Blue Storm 125-92. The trailblazers put in good numbers making 10 of 22 three point attempts and 21 of 31 free throws, but were unable to match the Blue Storm. LC falls to 9-9 overall and 3-8 in District 16.
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Salukis beat the Missouri State Bears 79-77 thanks to a layup with less than 7 seconds on the clock from Edwardsville High grad Armon Fletcher. The Salukis now are 14-9 and 6-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference, the bears fall to 15-8, and 5-5.
The SIUE Cougars fell to the Bellmont Bruins 83-72 yesterday. The Cougars have lost four straight and dropped to 3-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Belmont improves to a league-best 9-1 in the OVC and 17-6 overall.
The Dayton Flyers fell to the St. Louis University Billikens 75-65 last night. SLU now at 4-5 in the Atlantic 10, and 11-11 overall, Dayton drops to 4-5, and 10-11.
The Mizzou Tigers fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 74-62, With their third straight loss, Mizzou falls to 13-8 and 3-5 in the SEC, slipping into a tie for ninth place in the conference.
In Women's College Basketball the SIUE Cougars fell to Belmont 86-64. It was just the 2nd loss in the Ohio Valley Conference for the cougars and first road defeat. The Cougars drop to 11-10 overall and 8-2 in the OVC. Belmont improves to 20-3 overall and remain undefeated in the Ohio Valley.
The Lady Billikens beat George Washington University 72-69 thanks to a last second running 3 point shot in overtime. The Billikens improved to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the Atlantic 10. The Colonials fell to 9-11, 4-4.
The SIUE wrestling team got a road victory win at Gardner Webb 21-20 to improve to 2 and 2 in the Southern Conference.
The St. Louis Blues are off this weekend for the All Star game which begins today at 2:30. Next up for the Blue note is a home game on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
