The Alton Redbirds kicked off their homecoming weekend with a 14-7 win over the Belleville East Lancers at Public School Stadium Friday night. The Lancers jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Alton running back Keshon Young answered right back with a 60 yard touchdown run on the Redbirds' next possession. The score would remain deadlocked at 7 until Young scored again in the third quarter.

Alton added the extra point to make the score 14-7. The Redbird defense would take it from there holding the Lancers offense scoreless until the final whistle sounded. Alton improves to 2-2 in the Southwestern Conference and 3-3 overall. The Redbirds will try to make it three in a row next week when they host East St. Louis.

It wasn't as jubilant in Bethalto where the Highland Bulldogs spoiled the Civic Memorial Eagles homecoming weekend with an impressive 42-0 win over the host Eagles. The high-powered Bulldogs offense scored early and often with Logan Geiger finding the end zone twice in the first quarter.

His brother Gage Geiger and wide receiver Logan Kharibian would also score in the first half to give Highland a 28-0 lead at the break. Kharibian hauled in another touchdown catch early in the second half and Andrew Winning capped the scoring with a short touchdown run late in the 3rd quarter to give the Bulldogs a convincing 42-0 win at Hauser Field. The Eagles fall to 0-3 in the Mississippi Valley Conference and are 1-5 overall. They will look to bounce back next week when they host Mascoutah

Elsewhere Friday night, Litchfield topped Roxana 27-8, Brentwood, MO routed East Alton-Wood River 63-6 and Edwardsville beat Belleville West 45-14.
