Alton sophomore Bryan Hudson came thru in the bottom of the 9th inning -- with the game-winning RBI single on an 0-2 count with the bases loaded and one out to score Ron Wisnasky with the game-winning run….as the Redbirds prevailed 5-4 over Belleville East Wednesday at the Class 4A baseball sectional semi-finals (at Belleville West).
East grabbed an early 4-0 lead but the Redbirds rallied with a 3-run 5th inning and tied the game with a run in the 6th on a Wil Lewis RBI single. Lewis had three hits on the day.
Alton improves to 28-and-9 – tying the school record for baseball victories in single season. The Redbirds went 28-11 back in 2001.
Belleville East finishes the season at 21-14….including 0-3 against the Redbirds this season.
Hudson was the winning pitcher – he was the 4th Alton pitcher of the day.
Nick Droste had two hits and two rbi’s. The Redbirds also got two hits apiece from Ron Wisnasky and Clint Cress.
** Alton will now face Moline in a 4A sectional title game Saturday at 11 am in Bloomington.
