Our Friday night prep boys basketball double header featured a pair of wins for Riverbend teams. The action tipped off at Alton High where the host Redbirds posted a 63-52 win over the Edwardsville Tigers. You heard the action on The Big Z as Carlos Anderson led the way with 18 points. Darrius Edwards also chipped in with 14 points to help the Redbirds improve to 6-2 in the Southwestern Conference and 14-3 overall. Edwardsville falls to 4-3 in conference play and 9-7 with the loss. The Redbirds are back on the court today with a pair of games at the Team Works Invitational in Washington, IL. Alton plays Mahomet Seymour at 2 p.m. and then faces Grayslake North at 7 p.m.

Game two of our twinbill last night took us to Shell country where the Roxana Shells rolled to a 70-41 win over the Staunton Bulldogs. Trace Gentry scored a game-high 24 points for Roxana while Zach Gleener added 19 points as the Shells improved to 2-2 in South Central Conference play and 9-9 on the season. Staunton falls to 0-5 in the in the conference and 6-7 overall.  Next up for the Shells is a rivalry game with the East Alton Wood River Oilers at the Litchfield Invitational Tournament on Monday.
