Our Friday night prep football doubleheader featured a pair of senior night victories for our Riverbend teams. The action kicked off at Public School Stadium where the Alton Redbirds took control of a scoreless game in the second quarter. Neither Alton nor Collinsville could break through in the opening period, but the Redbirds Kareem Hamilton managed to break the deadlock early in the 2nd quarter.

Hamilton scores

Brad Leonard added the extra point and a field goal to make it 10-0 at the half in favor of the Redbirds. Justice Pedrero made it 16-0 with a touchdown run in the 3rd quarter. Collinsville answered the Pedrero score with a touchdown of their own, but the Redbirds responded quickly with a Larry Calvin touchdown run. Dalton Hamburg sealed the game with a touchdown run in the 4th quarter as Alton went on to win 29-6. Collinsville falls to 1-5 in the Southwestern Conference and 1-7 overall. Alton becomes playoff eligible by improving to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference. The Redbirds close the regular season on the road against Belleville West next weekend.

Jersey jumped out to a 13-0 lead after the opening quarter but the Eagles cut the lead to 20-14 in the second quarter before their defense stole any momentum Jersey had going into the break.
