The Edwardsville Tigers scored early and often in a 49-6 route of the Alton Redbirds at Public School Stadium. Craig James returned a pair of punts for touchdowns in the first half as the Tigers built a 35-6 halftime lead. Edwardsville's offense was also sharp on Friday night as quarterback Dan Marinko connected with receiver Isaiah Michl for three touchdowns in the win.

Edwardsville added a pair of scores in the third quarter and held Alton scoreless in the second half to claim the 49-6 win. Edwardsville improves to 2-0 in the Southwestern Conference and 4-0 overall. Alton falls to 0-2 in the conference and 1-3 overall. The Redbirds will try to end their skid on the road next week against Granite City.

The second game of our double header took us to Triad High School for the Civic Memorial Eagles conference opener against the host Knights. The Eagles led 12-7 at the half and looked like they would run away with it after running the score to 26-7 in the 3rd quarter. However the Knights weren't going away that easy as they scored touchdowns on three consecutive possessions to tie the game

Triad added the extra point and would score two more times to build their lead to 34-26 in the 4th quarter. Civic Memorial responded with a touchdown but failed on the two point try to cut the lead to two points. Triad recovered the ensuing onside kick and tacked on another score to seal the 41-32 win. Triad improves to 1-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference and 1-3 overall. C.M. falls to 0-1 in the conference and 1-3 overall. The Eagles will try to bounce back next week on the road against Waterloo.

Elsewhere last night Roxana beat Vandalia 49-36, Freeburg routed East Alton-Wood River 49-6 and Gillespie beat Southwestern 38-12.
