The Piasa Birds shot past the Oilers, 63-51 Monday night to open the Class 2A Staunton boys basketball regional. Southwestern led 24-18 at halftime and by the end of the 3rd quarter the lead was 10 points (43-33).
The Piasa Birds will now face top-seeded Roxana Wednesday night at 6 pm in the regional semi’s here on Z-1570.
Southwestern was led by Chris Catlett who scored 13 points while Erick Sosa and Blake Lawson chipped in with 12 points each. EA/WR got a game high 18 points from Devin Spurlock while Kyle Kearby added 14 in a losing cause. The Oilers finished the season at 11-and-19.
