Marquette has hired a new football coach for the coming season. Matt Bucher is a full-time teacher at the Catholic High School, and was special teams coach with the Explorers last season. He replaces Tim Nelson, who was not offered a contract to return to coach. Bucher also has coaching experience at Roxana High, and will become the 13th head coach in the school's history.
After five seasons with the Explorers, Nelson was released of his duties as the head football coach last week, mainly due to the fact that he is not a teacher at the high school. Nelson's five year record as head coach at Marquette was 33-and-19 including 10-and-2 in 2012 when Marquette advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals.
