The Marquette Explorers boys soccer team defeated Urbana University High 4-1 on Saturday to claim the Class 1A state championship in boys soccer. Matt Hampton put Marquette on the board first, scoring on a direct free kick just four minutes into the game.
Hampton Puts Marquette On Top
The Explorers took the 1-0 lead into the break and added to it in the second half when Steven Peuterbaugh put the ball into the net in the 58th minute.
Peuterbaugh found himself in the right place at the right time in the 77th minute of the game, scoring his second goal of the match on a rebound.
Peuterbaugh Scores Again
Caleb added his name to the score sheet in the final minute of the match, scoring on a shot from the right wing.
Urbana University High's George Voulgaris also scored on a penalty kick with just seconds remaining to make the final 4-1 in favor of the Explorers.
With the victory, Marquette claimed the 1st state title in boys soccer in school history. The Explorers finish the season with a 20-6-1 record.
