The Marquette Explorers’ baseball team advanced the Class 1A Carlinville sectional title game with a victory Thursday. The Explorers outlasted Nokomis, 5-4 in 16 innings – in the completion of a suspended game that started Wednesday afternoon. The game was called Wednesday tied at 4-4 after 12 innings. They picked up the game Thursday in the 13th inning.
Tommy Anderson pitched 6 innings of relief for the win on the mound. Nick Schranck led the Explorers’ offense going 5-for-6.
Marquette (25-8) will now face the Carrollton Hawks tomorrow at 1 pm at Blackburn College in the sectional championship game.
Carrollton advanced Thursday with a 1-0 win over the Waterloo Gibault Hawks. Carrollton has a mark of 23-6.
