In Class 1A baseball (over the weekend) – the Marquette Explorers brought home the third place trophy from the state tournament in Peoria. Marquette lost to Effingham St. Anthony, 6-2 in the state semi’s Friday but came back to win the third place game Saturday, 6-2 over Lena-Winslow.
Marquette finishes its baseball season at 28-9 with two seniors on the roster: Derrik Starrett and Johnny Wilson.
The Explorers used a 6-run 6th inning rally to beat the Lena-Winslow Panthers in the Class 1A third place game (6-to-2). The state baseball tournament was held over the weekend at O’Brien Field in Peoria.
