The Marquette Explorers’ baseball team is headed to the Class 1A state tournament in Peoria. Marquette edged Pawnee, 5-4 Monday in the Springfield super-sectional to advance to the state tourney – where they will play Friday morning at 10 am against Effingham St. Anthony.
Marquette’s Austin Siener provided the walk off win yesterday with a game winning rbi single in the bottom of the 7th inning with the score tied at 4-4.

Marquette improves to 27-8...while the Pawnee Indians finish at 31-7.
Geoffrey Ferguson led the Explorers offense with two hits – double and a two-run triple.
Derrick Starrett had two hits on the day (2-4) and scored the winning run in the 7th.
Starting pitcher Brogan Fischer went the distance (7 innings) to pick up the win on the mound.
Meanwhile Effingham St. Anthony won their super-sectional Monday, 7-0 over Shawnee.
Game two on Friday at State – in Class 1A baseball – will feature Tuscola against Lena – Winslow at about 12:30 pm.
