The Marquette Explorers boys soccer squad is headed to the Class 1A state finals in Bloomington-Normal (this weekend).
Marquette won the 1A Collinsville Super-Sectional last night with a 3-0 shutout over the Carlinville Cavaliers. It was a scoreless game at halftime – but Marquette got second half goals from Nick Schranck, Stephen Peuterbaugh and Matt Hampton.
The Explorers improved to 18-6-1 with the victory.
(The Cavaliers end the season at 23-5)
Next up for Marquette in the state semi’s Friday at 5 pm – The Hinckley–Big Rock Royals (from Hinckley, Illinois). The Royals won the Naperville North Super Tuesday night, 4-0 over Chicago Jesuit.
The other state semi-final contest Friday night at 7 pm (in boys 1A soccer) will feature Rockford Country Day against Urbana University High.
