The Illinois Fighting Illini will face Alabama Tuesday night in the first round of the NIT tournament. 

The National Invitational Tournament announced its field of 32 teams Sunday following the NCAA picking its 68-team field.

Illinois (19-13) will play at Alabama (18-14) in the NIT tonight at 8 pm here on the Big-Z.  The pregame show gets underway at 7 pm.  

Illinois received a number 3 seed in the NIT – but once again this year cannot play any post-season home games due to ongoing renovations to State Farm Center in Champaign.  This is the sixth appearance in the N.I.T. for the Illini.  


Illinois State is headed to the NIT as well as a #4 seed.  The ISU Redbirds (21-12) will host Green Bay – Wednesday night (7 pm).

One other note for the Illinois - Alabama game Tuesday night:

The Alabama Crimson Tide fired their head coach yesterday.  Anthony Grant just finished his 6th season with Alabama.  The 48-year old Grant had a record of 117-and-85 in six seasons at the school.
