Illinois senior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the season-opening victory over SIU-Carbondale Saturday in Champaign. Illinois beat SIU, 42-34.
Scheelhaase completed 28-of-36 passes for a career high 416 yard and two touchdowns against the Salukis.
It marks the second time Scheelhaase has been honored as Big Ten Player of the Week. The other came in November 2010 when he threw four touchdown passes against Purdue in his freshman year.
Illinois hosts Cincinnati this Saturday at 11 am here on Z-1570.
