The Civic Memorial Eagles struck early and often en route to a 50-21 victory over the Marquette Explorers on Saturday night. Adam Hill paced the Eagles attack, completing 12 of his 16 attempts for 194 yards and four touchdown passes in the first half, to give C.M. a 43-0 advantage at the break. The Explorers finally got on the board in the 3rd quarter with Trey Aguirre connecting with Jesse Simmons for a touchdown. Civic Memorial answered quickly however, with John Whitworth scoring his third touchdown of the game to extend the lead to 50-7. Marquette would then score the final 14 points of the game, on touchdown runs from Aguirre and Davion Peebles, but it would be too little to late as the Eagles won it by the score of 50-21.
Marquette slips to 0-and-1 on the season and will travel to Quincy next weekend to face Quincy Notre Dame. Civic Memorial improves to 1-and-0 and will play at Mattoon in the second week of the season.
