Belleville Althoff outlasted Marquette, 12-7 in 8-innings on Monday to win the Class 2A Trenton Wesclin baseball regional championship game.  The game was played in O'Fallon due to wet field conditions in Trenton.


The Explorers rallied for 4-runs in the 7th inning to tie the game at 5-5 and send it into extra innings.  But Althoff answered with a 7-run 8th inning.  Marquette's Sam Cogan tied the game in the 7th with a 2-run single - his 4th hit of the game. 


The Explorers also got RBI's from Jayce Maag, Garrett Weiner, Kaleb Ware, Montana Gossage, & Jed Eggering.  Nick Hemann got the start and went 6-innings.  Jack Warren suffered the loss in relief.  


The Crusaders (13-14) got 5-RBI's in the win from shortstop Matthew Schroeder.  Marquette ends the baseball season at 20-and-10. 




The Belleville Althoff Crusaders advances to the Class 2A Flora Sectional tomorrow.
