The Civic Memorial Lady Eagles had a record setting year on the basketball court, winning a school record 24 games on the way to repeating as Mississippi Valley Conference champions and claiming the program’s first regional title. The Eagles success has gained the attention of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association who recently named head coach Jonathan Denney the Co-Coach of the year.
Denney says he couldn’t have done it without his team.
Denney has coached the Lady Eagles for 7 seasons and says there isn’t anywhere else he’d rather be.
Denney says the recognition doesn’t make him any less motivated going into next season.
The Lady Eagles lost, 45-41, to Massac County in the semifinals of the Class 3A Waterloo Sectional. They finished the season 24-8.
