David Freese homered and Matt Adams knocked in a pair for as the St. Louis Cardinals dropped their exhibition opener, 8-3, to the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Trevor Rosenthal was tagged for 4 runs on 5 hits in his two innings of work. Reliever Randy Choate also allowed a home run in his debut for the Cardinals.

The Redbirds will be right  back in action today in Jupiter as they play host to the Boston Red Sox at Roger Dean Stadium. John Gast gets the start in place of Shelby Miller for St. Louis today. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
