The Cardinals beat the Oakland A's last night 3-1 at Busch. Cards starter Luke Weaver picked up his first career win in the Majors. Weaver went a career-best six innings holding the A's to four hits with seven strikeouts. The victory pulled the Cardinals to within one game of the Giants in the race for the top Wild Card spot and increased their lead for the second Wild Card berth to 1 1/2 games over the Marlins. Jedd Gyorko blasted a homer in the first, extending the Cardinals' home run streak to 15 games (two short of the team's season high). Cards top prospect Alex Reyes will make his first Major League start tonight after the Cardinals were forced to pull Mike Leake from his schedule start. Leake has been diagnosed with shingles. Reyes has thrown 9 1/3 scoreless innings in relief since being promoted earlier this month. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15.
