Our Friday night prep football doubleheader featured a pair of disappointing results for our Riverbend teams. The Highland Bulldogs spolied Homecoming weekend in Bethalto with a 35-27 win over the Civic Memorial Eagles at Hauser field in the opening contest.
Trent Rakers and John Whitworth traded scores in the early going but the Bulldogs took a 21-14 lead into the break following a screen pass in the closing minutes of the first half.

Rakers would add his third score of the night in the second half as the Bulldogs would with stand Adam Hill's two touchdown passes and hang on to win it 35-27. Highland improves to 3-and-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference and 6-and-0 on the year. They face undefeated Triad next week. Civic Memorial slips to 5-and-1 overall and 2-and-1 in the conference and will take on Waterloo next week.
