The Alton Redbirds started and finished strong in a 26-8 win over the Cahokia Comanches on Friday night. Demonte Wigfall recovered a fumble on the opening kick off to give Alton an early 7-0 lead and the Redbirds never looked back as senior running back Keshon Young carried Alton to it's first win of the season. Young racked up 151 yards on 18 carries, including this touchdown run in the third quarter.

Alton added another touchdown before the final whistle to make the final score 26-8. The Redbirds improve to 1-1 on the season and will open Southwestern Conference play next week on the road against O'Fallon.
Meanwhile, it was another night to forget for the Marquette Explorers as Quincy Notre Dame senior quarterback Joe McCaughey led the Raiders to an impressive 41-7 win. McCaughy started the scoring early, completing an 80 yard touchdown pass on the game's opening drive.

McCaughey was just getting started as he would finish the night 11-of-20 for 300 yards with four touchdowns through the air. The senior also ran for a touchdown in the victory. Marquette's offense mustered their only points of the season late in the 4th quarter when Kareem Hamilton broke a 68-yard touchdown run. Marquette falls to 0-2 and will open Prairie State Conference play next week at Mt. Olive.
It was a mixed bag of results for our other Riverbend teams Friday night. East-Alton Wood River blanked Metro East Lutheran 12-0, Centralia rallied to beat Civic Memorial 20-17, Pana beat Roxana 27-7, and Greenville blasted Southwestern 42-0.
