The construction of personal identity for ancient Egyptian women was complex, multilayered, and sometimes contradictory. Scholar and curator Patricia Podzorski, curator of Egyptian art at the University of Memphis, will explore archaeological, textual, and artistic sources for some of the standard markers of feminine identity recognized by Egyptologists and share specific examples of exceptional women across the span of ancient Egyptian history and society, from queens to commoners.
