Daniel Stone – The Food Explorer
3/14/2018 -
Left Bank Books and the Missouri Botanical Garden welcome National Geographic staff writer Daniel Stone, who will sign and discuss his new book, "The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of a Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats," with Senior Vice President for Science and Conservation James S. Miller!

This event is free and open to the public, but proof of purchase of "The Food Explorer" from Left Bank Books will be required to enter the signing line.

In the 19th century, American meals were about subsistence, not enjoyment. But as a new century approached, appetites broadened, and David Fairchild, a young botanist with an insatiable lust to explore the world, set out in search of foods—avocados, mangoes, seedless grapes, and thousands more—that would enrich the American farmer and enchant the American eater. "The Food Explorer" tells stories taken directly from Fairchild’s unpublished journals and letters, as well as never-before-seen photographs from remote parts of the world.
