July 2017
Pippin - Presented by Curtain's Up Theater Company
7/21/2017 -

Curtain’s Up Theater Company has some “Magic to Do” in July with its presentation of Pippin!

A prince learns the true meaning of glory, love and war in this iconic musical allegory.

Pippin is a Tony Award winning musical that tells the story of a young scholar and royal who wishes for a life not wasted in pursuit of common things.  A mysterious Leading Player and his fellow actors both guide and disrupt the “play” of Pippin’s life as they tell the tale of Pippin’s search for significance.

Fans of Wicked and Godspell will recognize the tremendous talents of Stephen Schwartz, who wrote Pippin’s music and lyrics to accompany the historically fictitious book by Roger O. Hirson. Pippin was originally produced on the Broadway stage by Stuart Ostrow and directed by Bob Fosse.  Mitch Sebastian originally conceived the Theo ending in 1998.

Jeffrey Yapp-Ellis is happily returning to CUTC to both direct and choreograph Pippin.  “I LOVE this company!  “Everyone involved from the board to the performers are super-passionate about what they do,” he said.  Pippin’s cast includes:  Leading Player - Mitch Ellis-Yapp, Pippin - Colin Dowd, Catherine – Christy Luster, Theo – Kayla Oberkfell, Charles – Dave McCausland, Fastrada – Carrie Priesmeyer, Lewis – Jack Rimar, Berthe – Diane Wingerter, along with Dawn Schmid, Brook McGaughey, Elizabeth Semko, Evante Rickman, and Connor McDonald as the ensemble.

CUTC will be presenting Pippin at the Alfresco Performing Arts Center in Granite City for performances on July 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd at 7:30pm.  Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and are available through the Curtain’s Up website at www.curtainsuptheater.com or at the Alfresco box office.
