The Weekend of Something Better
11/12/2016 -

Alton area residents decompressing and celebrating the end of a heated election season might very well enjoy attending the Weekend of Something Better at First Unitarian Church of Alton on Saturday, November 12.  Evening plans include a hearty fall dinner featuring delectable desserts created by Alton’s newest downtown bakery, Frost.  The first set of the Spoken Word / Concert program includes an uplifting assortment of personal, true stories read by the original authors based upon the Something Better theme.  Perhaps best known under her professional pseudonym of Adrianna Larkin, our second set will spotlight Nancy Herold.  An award winning singer-songwriter, Nancy renders dulcet tones with “story in song” and upbeat acoustic originals performed solo with a simple guitar.

First Unitarian Church of Alton, the metro east’s only Unitarian church, also invites the community to the other events of the Weekend of Something Better.

An all-gender workshop mini-retreat includes 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. sessions.  Offerings include Mindstitching, Build-a-Box of Blessings, Papermaking, Water Marbling, Drumming, Essential Oils Make-and-Take, an open discussion on the Law of Attraction and a Spoken Word workshop.  Most workshops are free, some have a small fee.  Onsite massage appointments can also be scheduled.  Light refreshments and beverages will be provided.

On Sunday, November 13 a special 10:00 church service will carry through on the theme with readings from two additional original spoken word authors.  Rev Dawn Fortune will speak from the pulpit.
