Alton's Architectural Gem: The Grand Theater of the 1920s
6/4/2016 -

In the first architecture talk of our series, Meghan Bellitto covered the Hotel Stratford. Now we are taking a walk right across the street to the iconic Grand Theatre. Meghan will focus on the historical and architectural significance of Alton’s classic movie theater, which opened to spectacular fanfare in 1920. Come learn about the historical beginnings of the theater, develop an appreciation for its Art Deco design features, and see why it still holds a special place in the hearts of many Altonians. Though the last film played there in 1977, the Grand Theatre still stands as one of Alton’s architectural gems. Seating is limited. Register at 1-800-613-3163.

Note: Program to be presented at the Genealogy & Local History Library at 401 State Street, Alton.
