Macoupin County Historical Society Spring Festival

 

The popular Macoupin County Spring Festival will take place, May 23&24.  The two day spring fest will take place on the Historical society grounds at 920 Breckenridge Street, in the northwest part of Carlinville.  Hours are 9am to 4pm.  The Spring Festival is sponsored by the Historical Society, Macoupin Agriculture    Antique Association and the Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association.  As always, parking and admission is free.  A minimal fee is charged to tour the three-story Victorian Museum.  The display theme of the museum this spring is vintage:  party dresses, greeting cards, and hankies.  The Agricultural Antique Association will sponsor a display of tractors, machines, and farm equipment.  A tractor parade and demonstrations will take place each day.

More than 150 craft vendors will locate their booths around the grounds.  Many old time home crafts such as broom making, and rug and basket weaving       will be demonstrated.  Agricultural demonstrations of old will include:  blacksmithing, plowing, vertical shingle mill operation, and saw mill lumber sawing.

Other sites to visit while on the grounds are an Original One-room school house and an Original Country Church with Hymn singing each day at 1pm and a Sunday morning Church Service at 8:30am.  Also a visit to the old time Print Shop and the Country Store are in order.

Other attractions include musical entertainment with the Steven Cactus Ranch Band playing Saturday from 12noon-3pm and the Harmons playing Sunday from 12noon-3pm.

Great old fashioned food such as ham and beans, chicken and noodles, and of course strawberry and rhubarb shortcake   will be served by the Historical Society in the Red Barn.  Breakfast, consisting of sausage gravy and biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and breakfast drinks will be served starting at 7am.  The Agricultural Association will be serving BBQ pork burgers and pork chop sandwiches, desserts, and drinks in their Pavilion.

The Prairieland Garden Tractor Pullers will have a Garden Tractor Pull on Saturday.  Weigh in for the event is at 10:30am with the pull to begin at 11:30am  .
